Understanding By Design

When designing units of work in Religious Education with Crossways, we encourage the use of the Backwards Design process created by Wiggins and McTighe in their Understanding by Design framework. You will see that the ‘learning design template’ we have provided is based on this process which commences with ‘the end in mind’ regarding student learning.  The Crossways learning design template is built around the following stages:

  •  Stage 1  Desired Learning and Growth
  •  Stage 2  Evidence of Learning (Assessment)
  •  Stage 3  Learning Opportunities and Strategies
