‘It is not easy to approach the issue of sex education in an age when sexuality tends to be trivialized and impoverished. It can only be seen within the broader framework of an education for love, for mutual self-giving.’ (Amoris Laetitia 280. 2016)
Research indicates that the current experience of children and their increasing exposure to sexualisation in the media, pornography and social media highlights the need for access to accurate information and guidance that reflects a Catholic understanding of human sexuality and life-giving relationships. It is important that young people have access to contemporary, age-appropriate human sexuality education for them to navigate an increasingly changing world and to support them in making healthy and informed choices about their bodies and positive relationships.
