Why MITIOG?

‘It is not easy to approach the issue of sex education in an age when sexuality tends to be trivialized and impoverished. It can only be seen within the broader framework of an education for love, for mutual self-giving.’ (Amoris Laetitia 280. 2016)

Research indicates that the current experience of children and their increasing exposure to sexualisation in the media, pornography and social media highlights the need for access to accurate information and guidance that reflects a Catholic understanding of human sexuality and life-giving relationships. It is important this is provided in a supportive and pastoral manner that promotes healthy dialogue and an understanding of their inalienable worth.

Education in human sexuality and respectful relationships is an integral component of the education of the whole person. It is important that young people have access to contemporary, age-appropriate human sexuality education for them to navigate an increasingly changing world and to support them in making healthy and informed choices about their bodies and positive relationships.

This comprehensive human sexuality and respectful relationships curriculum addresses the socio-cultural, biological, psychological, and spiritual dimensions of human sexuality. The curriculum is designed to support teachers in their teaching and learning to support students to explore feelings, values, attitudes and develop critical-thinking skills, understand human sexuality from a Catholic lens and values the fundamental belief that humans are made in God’s image and deserve the upmost dignity and respect.
